Harnessing The Power of Your Brain

If someone asked you what the strongest part of your body was, what would you say?

    • Is it the heart which beats approximately 2.5 billion times over 70 years?
    • Or the masseter muscle (found in the jaw and the one we use to chew) – the bite strength of an average man is between 117 – 265 pounds!
    • It could also be the soleus or even the uterus (capable of pushing a baby out!)

All of these are true but the most powerful part of our body is actually OUR MIND.  It is capable of HUGE things, which is where the phrase ‘mind over matter’ also comes from.  In many ways, the mind has been described as the most powerful muscle in the human body.  Which is amazing when it’s working in ways that are of value beyond words.

But what about when we want to do things differently, overcome phobias or feel more positive and motivated and we just can’t? This where the beauty of Brain Working Recursive Therapy comes in…

What Is Brain Working Recursive Therapy?

“If the mind is willing, the flesh could go and on without many things.”  Sun Tzu

Brain Working Recursive Therapy (also known as BWRT) is a new and advanced model of psychology and psychotherapy which embraces the latest thinking on neuroscience and psychological health.  It is not hypnosis, nor does it use any concepts that might be considered mythical or unscientific.  BWRT is completely logical, practical and down-to-earth.  It doesn’t use trance states, tapping, touching or stroking.

It was developed in 2013 by UK therapist trainer Terence Watts and has enjoyed a speedy rise in popularity in the UK and worldwide, thanks to the success it has enjoyed from the start and its rapid resolution of problems.

We Answer Your Questions About BWRT

Our brilliant hypnotherapist Genevieve is a fully qualified BWRT practitioner and in this article she answers some of the frequently asked questions we receive about BWRT.

Q: Will I have to relive my fears?

No – BWRT isn’t used like that. In fact, I don’t even have to know what your exact fear is. You might only say something like: “I have these panic attacks” and that’s all I need to know to be able to help you.

Q: Do you have to be really ill before this therapy works?

Not at all! BWRT can help all manner of uncomfortable situations and conditions. The best thing is for us to have a chat so we can discuss your needs in detail.

Q: Are there any unpleasant side effects?

There are no lasting side effects. Some people feel slightly ‘disconnected’ for a few seconds – no longer – as the brain lets go of the problem at the end of the session. That’s all.

Q: How many sessions will I need?   My budget for this type of help isn’t unlimited!

One of the great things about BWRT is its speed. Often, one session is sufficient to resolve your problem. It’s rare for there to be a need for more than 4 sessions for a single issue.

 Q: Does it last?

Yes! When your problem is resolved with BWRT it stays resolved.

Q: Can it work for performance enhancement?

It certainly can. Whether it’s for athletics, business, relationships, sex, driving, exams or anything else where you need to give your best, BWRT can be effectively employed.

Q: Can it work for things like alcoholism and anorexia?

It can, but those are complex issues and it’s impossible to state definitely that it will work every time. I will be able to tell you more on an initial consultation, and I may be able to work with the issues that cause you such problems.

Q: What happens in a session?

After getting some details from you, I will explain how BWRT works. But I will not ask you to reveal any secrets or intimate details of your life. This is a totally private therapy in which you only have to be able to tell me how you feel and how you would like to feel instead.

For instance, you might say something like: “Social situations scare me half to death!” and I would then ask if you can think how you would like to feel instead. If you can, I will get straight to work; if you can’t, I will help you decide – and again you will never have to reveal any details you really don’t want to.

After we’ve done that, it’s on into the therapy itself. This stops the troubling response in its tracks so that the brain then waits for better information – that will come from your own mind based on what you want, rather than in most therapies where it’s often based on what the therapist thinks you should have. This is why BWRT is so effective. We use your own brain processes to create the processes you want instead of you having to put up with the ones that are giving you problems.

Q: But how do you do that?

We start by ‘freezing’ the troubling thoughts then we employ a technique called ‘Recursive Looping’ to condition the way the brain responds to triggers. BWRT is the only therapy (as at March 2018) to work in this manner, making it one of the fastest and most effective therapies around.

Most other therapies work on the response after it has been generated, requiring you to tell the practitioner what you’re thinking about – but with BWRT the problem is dealt with ‘at source’, before it even gets to the conscious mind.  Simple and private!”
